Mabel Tothill (1868-1964) was an active member of the Bristol Independent Labour Party, and the first female City Councillor in Bristol (in 1920). Her political biography and background have been described on the Independent Labour Publications website. As a member of the War and Social Order Committee, she convened a sub-committee in June 1915 to look at the simplification of personal lives, reminded the committee in 1916 that the Religious Society of Friends had “lagged too far behind” on social issues, and in 1919 produced the discussion questions which were circulated with the Foundations.
