Francis E Pollard (1872-1951), one of the original members of the War and Social Order Committee, was a teacher at Bootham School, and later secretary of the National Peace Council. He was one of the authors of Democracy and the Quaker Method (1949), which attracted considerable scholarly attention. It brought principles from Quaker decision-making to bear on wider questions about democracy, and has been quoted in several recent works (by non-Quakers) on participatory decision-making. There is an extremely detailed account of his life here.
